Art has been in service to the proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ for over a millennium. Sacred Art has been an essential element in sharing the beauty, goodness, and truth of our Catholic faith and in expressing the sacred nature of our journey as God’s holy people. In all its forms, Sacred Art feeds our souls and prepares us for the daily battles we must wage in our quest for inner peace.
The Sacred Art Institute offers spiritual inspiration as it teaches the history and craft of Sacred Art – visual, written, and sung – through its growing community of instructors who are highly skilled in traditional art forms.
WORKSHOPS In addition to being grounded in the theology of sacred art, each workshop is specially designed to teach the history and techniques of the discipline in a way that is both accessible to the beginner and challenging for the experienced artist. Because we limit enrollments and employ only select instructors with significant experience, we are able to accommodate participation at all levels of proficiency. The Sacred Art Institute offers an opportunity to draw closer to God through reflecting on and creating beauty in traditions refined over centuries, including Calligraphy, Manuscript Illumination, Pysanky Egg Decoration, Sculpture, Watercolor and Oil Painting, and Woodworking.
ACCOMMODATIONS Our students enjoy classes in the renovated Sacred Art Studio, with its stunning stained-glass windows and stonework which are reminders that the studio, for 48 years, served as the Island chapel.
