The doves near the Our Lady of Fatima statue represent the Miracle of the Doves. During the first Virgin Mary statue pilgrimage from Fatima to Lisbon in 1946, three doves flew to the feet of Our Lady and remained there until the pilgrimage and ceremonies in Fatima were over. The Bishop of Leiria proclaimed, "These doves are symbolic of the theological virtues...faith, hope, and charity.
The Our Lady of Fatima relief statue was designed by Buzzi Memorials and created by Stanley Lutostanski, a master sculptor renowned for his work with granite from the Rock of Ages quarry in Barre, Vermont.
We consecrated the statue last August. It is part of a major gift to Enders Island. The E. William and France Kenyon Foundation donated the statue, which is the beginning of the Kenyon Rosary Walk, and will be parallel to the new seawall currently under construction.
