Blessed Imelda Lambertini, born in 1322 in Bologna, Italy, was devoted to the Eucharist as a child at a time when children did not receive the Holy Sacrament until the age of 14. This reliquary bust depicts Imelda’s ecstasy after receiving the Eucharist at age 11 because of a miracle. Shortly after her first communion, Imelda died of joy. A bronze version of this sculpture was commissioned by St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Costa Mesa, California in 2015. This version is made of plaster with gold and silver leaf. A second-class relic of the saint, a fragment of her Dominican habit, is incorporated into the sculpture.
